Regenerate Your Land: Partner With Us
Following nature’s footsteps
Our rotational grazing process emulates the migration of bison, Colorado’s native ruminant, which kept Boulder’s wildland healthy for millenia. Through a cycle of intense grazing followed by periods of letting the land rest, herds of thousands of bison naturally enriched the soil, promoted plant health, and increased biological activity. With our management intensive grazing, our herd mimics this pattern of high impact followed by rest to reap the same benefits for our prairie ecosystem.
Better for the land
Listening to the landscape
Unlike other farming practices, our unique grazing process aims to look at the whole picture.
With each property we ask the question, "what does this property need to thrive?" and create a plan that fits its landscape. This has allowed us to work with landowners to mitigate wildfire, reduce weeds, sequester carbon, support wildlife, diversify plant species, and reduce barren landscapes - making our meat better for you and better for Boulder.
The land regeneration process:
Breaking it down
Boulder’s grassland stewards
We’re an ecologically-diversified, ecosystem-based farm using adaptive stockmanship principles. We don’t own a single acre of the land we graze; instead, we establish land partnerships with public and private landowners and managers that are passionate about regenerating landscapes, supporting ecosystems' cycles, and livestock integration.
At Grama Grass & Livestock, we work toward the goal of community resilience – building a community that can feed itself off the land that surrounds it, that cares for its members, and that can enjoy its natural landscape. Last year, we impacted over 470 acres of land in Boulder County, and we’re just getting started.
Our trusted partners
Public lands
&
open spaces
For years, we've worked with local governments within Boulder County and a variety of public entities to revitalize our open spaces. We take an active role in protecting the green spaces that we run, walk, bike, hike and recreate in every day. Through regenerative grazing on these lands, we’re proud to help strengthen our local ecosystems and bring new life to degenerated land, keeping Boulder healthy, vibrant, and thriving for years to come.
“We have seen positive results on all different types of projects including: noxious weed suppression, wetland and riparian area management, degraded land rehabilitation, and thick brome sod suppression so we can more effectively seed and diversify the plant community. Grama Grass is an excellent partner on our land management projects; they are flexible, responsive, and committed to doing what the land needs to achieve project goals.”
- Eric Fairlee, Agricultural Senior Program Manager with the City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks (OSMP)
Local farms
&
private properties
Our land regeneration benefits also extend to private landowners, as we continue to establish partnerships with local produce farmers and non-agricultural residents. Not only does our process result in healthier and more vibrant land, but you’ll also be eligible for a tax credit in return for our use of your vacant space – a win/win. Whether you’re a produce farmer with unused fields, or a non-agricultural resident with empty land, drop us a line – we’re excited to discuss what we can offer.
“In 2015, after four years of hard work, I finally succeeded in establishing 65 acres of dryland native grasses to replace the tree nursery that had occupied my Boulder County land for 38 years. Four years later, the grasses began to thin and die. Experts in the field informed me that the grasses need bovines every bit as much as bovines need grasses. Serendipity intervened, and I met the people and cows at Grama Grass; it was a marriage made in heaven. Now, everybody and everything are happy and in balance.”
